The charge of the Light Horsemen At Beersheba On 31 October 1917 was one of the most important strategic attacks made by Australians in the Middle East battles during the First World War.
On this day the Aussie 4th and 12th Light Horse Regiments charged at Ottoman defended land with artillery and rifle fire raining down upon them. Alas they succeeded in their mission and were able to capture the town.
This brave charge by the Australians lead to the outflanking the Ottoman bastion at Gaza allowing the British to continue their advance through to Palestine.
