ROYAL AUSTRALIAN AIR FORCE CENTENARY
Official and affordable, this Australian legal tender set from the Royal Australian Mint (RAM) marks the 100th anniversary of the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF).
AUSTRALIA’S FLYING FIGHTERS – A PROUD HISTORY…
The RAAF is one of the world’s oldest independent air forces. It was less than a decade after the Wright Brothers first achieved powered flight that the concept of Australia’s first air force was formed. The establishment of the Central Flying School at Point Cook in 1913 was the spark, and by 1921, the RAAF was born, taking the place of the WWI Australian Flying Corps. The RAAF’s role in WWII was invaluable, and since that time, the service has represented Australia around the globe, establishing a reputation for excellence that is second to none.
